Join the Travels with Darley host at the Greensboro History Museum for Revolutionary War stories, behind-the-scenes filming insights, and a book signing
My Revolutionary Road Trip book tour is coming to Greensboro, North Carolina!
On Sunday, November 8, I’ll be at the Greensboro History Museum for “Revolutionary Road Trip: A Conversation with Darley Newman,” a special event exploring Greensboro and North Carolina’s fascinating connections to the American Revolution.
I’ll be joined by a panel of local experts, including Carol Ghiorsi Hart, director of the Greensboro History Museum. Together, we’ll share stories from the region’s Revolutionary past, discuss the people and places that shaped American history, and take guests behind the scenes of filming Travels with Darley in Greensboro and across North Carolina.

Greensboro’s Place in Revolutionary War History
Greensboro is an important stop on any American Revolution road trip.
The city is named for Major General Nathanael Greene, who led American forces at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse on March 15, 1781. Although the British claimed victory, the battle significantly weakened their forces and helped set the stage for the eventual British surrender at Yorktown.
While researching my book, Revolutionary Road Trip: Hidden Stories from America’s Founding Journey, I visited destinations throughout the original colonies to uncover stories that are often missing from traditional history books.
Behind the Scenes of Travels with Darley
During the event, I’ll share behind-the-scenes stories from filming Travels with Darley in the Greensboro area.
One of my favorite parts of creating the series is exploring a destination with the local historians, museum professionals, preservationists, and community members who know its stories best. Their perspectives bring history to life and help us understand not only what happened, but also how those events continue to shape a community today.
We’ll discuss what I discovered while filming in the region, how those experiences influenced Revolutionary Road Trip, and why traveling to historic sites can change the way we understand America’s founding.
A Conversation About America’s Hidden History
This event is about more than dates and battles. It is an opportunity to consider the individuals, communities, and perspectives that make Revolutionary history more complete.
During the conversation, we’ll explore some of North Carolina’s lesser-known Revolutionary stories and discuss why preserving and visiting historic places remains so important as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary.
There will also be time for audience questions, so bring your curiosity and your own questions about Greensboro history, the American Revolution, travel filmmaking, and the process of writing Revolutionary Road Trip.
Book Signing With Scuppernong Books
A book signing will follow the program. Copies of Revolutionary Road Trip: Hidden Stories from America’s Founding Journey will be available for purchase at the museum from Greensboro’s own Scuppernong Books.
I look forward to meeting local readers, history lovers, travelers, and Travels with Darley viewers. I especially enjoy hearing about the historic destinations people have visited and where they hope to travel next.
