Join Darley Newman for Inside the Parks: A Revolutionary Road Trip Special National Park Foundation Webinar

Some of the most powerful travel experiences happen when history stops being something you read about — and becomes something you stand inside of. That's what drives my Revolutionary Road Trip series, my upcoming book, and honestly, so much of what Travels with Darley is all about. And on June 3rd, I get to share all of it in a very special way.

I'm Joining the National Park Foundation's Inside the Parks Series

I'm so excited to be the featured storyteller for the National Park Foundation's Inside the Parks webinar series — and this one could not be more timely. We're calling it A Revolutionary Road Trip: A Journey Through Revolutionary-Era America, and it's happening on June 3, 2026 at 12 p.m. ET. It’s just weeks before the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence. I'll be joined by moderator Jamie Kelley for what I promise will be a conversation worth clearing your calendar for.

What We'll Be Talking About

Over the past few years, I've traveled to Revolutionary War sites across the thirteen original colonies — walking battlefields, ducking into colonial taverns, and exploring hidden fortresses that most Americans have never heard of. All of that research, all of those stories, came together in my book Revolutionary Road Trip — and on June 3rd, I'll be bringing those experiences to life for the Inside the Parks community. Here's a taste of what we'll cover:

  • The stories you didn't learn in school. From lesser-known heroes to the untold roles of women, enslaved people, and everyday colonists — the revolution was far more complex and compelling than any textbook lets on.

  • The national parks that protect it all. Places like Saratoga National Historical Park in New York — the site of one of the war's most decisive turning points — exist because of the National Park Foundation's work to preserve hallowed ground for generations to come. We'll talk about why visiting these sites today matters more than ever.

  • The moments that stop you in your tracks. Like tasting Martha Washington's Cherry Bounce — a recipe that has survived since the 18th century. Or standing on a ridge at Saratoga, looking out over the same landscape where everything changed. These are the experiences that make history feel alive.

  • Practical travel inspiration. If this conversation lights a fire in you to hit the road, I want you to leave with real ideas for how to plan your own Revolutionary Road Trip — whether it's a weekend or a week.

This Conversation Matters Right Now

We are weeks away from July 4th, 2026 — the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. America's Semiquincentennial. There has never been a better moment to explore the places where this country's story began. National parks, historic sites, battlefields, and colonial landmarks across the East Coast are waiting — and most of them are more accessible, more engaging, and more surprising than people expect. This Inside the Parks conversation is the perfect first step.
