About Revolutionary Road Trip
What does it look like to road trip through the American Revolution — not just the famous battlefields, but the hidden fortresses, the colonial taverns, the hallowed ground where lesser-known heroes made history?
In Revolutionary Road Trip, Darley Newman sets out to find out. Following her across Revolutionary War sites in national parks, iconic cities like Charleston, South Carolina and Princeton, New Jersey, and unexpected stops like a colonial tavern in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the book catalogs oral histories and untold truths passed down by generations of guides, historians, and community members whose boots are on the ground at historic sites across the thirteen original colonies.
From lighthearted moments — like tasting Martha Washington's recipe for Cherry Bounce — to deeply moving experiences, including an emotional trek alongside a military historian at Camden Battlefield, Revolutionary Road Trip is both an entertaining travel narrative and a serious work of on-the-ground historical research.
It's a book for the curious, the intrepid, and anyone who has ever wondered what really happened in the places where America was born.
