Revolutionary Road Trip Book Tour Rolls Into Brooklyn
Darley Newman Talks Hidden History at POWERHOUSE Arena in DUMBO
The Revolutionary Road Trip book tour made its way to Brooklyn this week, as Darley Newman — Emmy Award-winning host of Travels with Darley on PBS — brought Revolutionary Road Trip: Hidden Stories of America's Founding Journey to POWERHOUSE Arena in DUMBO for an evening of books, history, and a little wine with a story of its own.
"Brooklyn, books, hidden history... and a little wine with a story of its own," Darley wrote of the evening. "What an incredible evening at POWERHOUSE Arena in DUMBO! We explored the people, places, and surprising stories that bring America's past to life in ways you might not expect."
A Conversation with NYC Historian John Friia
Darley was joined in conversation by John Friia of Here In NY, the New York City historian and content creator known for turning Gotham's hidden history into must-watch storytelling for his social following of more than 350,000. Friia — a CUNY 50 Under 50 honoree who has appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and NBC, and delivers monthly segments on PIX11's New York Living — brought his own deep knowledge of the city's past to a discussion that ranged across the people, places, and surprising stories behind America's founding.
Hosted by POWERHOUSE Arena, Toasted with Brotherhood Winery
The event took place at POWERHOUSE Arena, the boutique bookstore and event space on the DUMBO waterfront known for its soaring 24-foot ceilings and lively calendar of author events. Darley thanked the POWERHOUSE Arena team for hosting the evening in "such a fantastic space." Guests toasted the night with pours from Brotherhood Winery, America's oldest winery. Founded in Washingtonville, New York in 1839, Brotherhood has been producing wine for more than 180 years — including through Prohibition, when it stayed open by producing sacramental wine — and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Meeting Readers Along the Way
For Darley, the Brooklyn stop was another reminder of what makes the book tour special. "Meeting readers, seeing friends, hearing your questions, signing books, and connecting over our shared curiosity about history and travel is one of the best parts of this journey," she shared.
